Agricultural Equipment: Understanding the Functionality of a 4-in-1 Bucket

The importance of a versatile tractor on a farm cannot be overemphasised. It is a great investment that will enhance farm productivity. Currently, even small tractors are designed with a 4 in 1 bucket. As the name suggests, 4 in 1 buckets perform four main functions, which include scooping, grading, grabbing and levelling. The bottom and side separate, enabling the operator to load, carry, dig and dump the dirt.

The bucket can either assume a closed or open position. When closed, the bucket functions as a conventional bucket. However, unlike regular buckets, 4 in 1 buckets can open at the bottom to discard material at maximum height and spread dirt during grading. Also, an open bucket can pick up materials that are impossible to pick with ordinary buckets. Below are the advantages you will get by using a 4 in 1 bucket.

Levelling Gravel

An open bucket uses a back jaw's cutting blade to level gravel by driving in reverse.  Alternatively, the operator can scoop the material and open the bucket a little bit as the tractor moves along. The bucket will sprinkle the material sparingly, forming a thin layer. The layers depth depends on the tractor's speed and the size of the bucket opening.

Grabbing Materials

The bucket is very useful in grabbing objects thanks to its clamping capability. You can use the bucket to pick up huge stones and massive pieces of wood. Ensure you position objects in the middle of the bucket when lifting objects vertically to reduce the likelihood of dropping the object. You should be prudent enough to avoid grabbing an object that is beyond the bucket's capability. For instance, trying to grab a whole tree from the ground is a bad idea. The best part about the bucket is that the grabbing functionality enables you to fit the attachments quickly by grabbing the levelling bar using the bucket.

Grading Lose Material

A tractor uses the front jaw to perform simple grading jobs. It pushes loose material using the cutting edge while moving forward. However, the bucket can only grade excavated material. The tractor is usually fitted with a backhoe and ripper at the back for excavation work.

Removal

The benefits of the 4 in 1 bucket do not only revolve around performing various tasks. The fact that you can actually remove the bucket makes it even more versatile. Removing the bucket allows you to fit other attachments. This means that your tractor can function as a forklift. Also, it enables the tractor to manoeuvre tight areas.
